In this presentation we will take a look at the latest 5G multi antenna concepts both in standardization, Ericsson testbeds and trial systems as well as the coming product portfolio. Multi antenna technology is seen as one of the key enablers for reaching the high throughput and coverage requirements in 5G. The array gain given by beamforming will be a necessity for higher frequencies in order to provide coverage, while higher order spatial multiplexing is seen as one of the most important features to reach the capacity targets on 5G systems.

bo-gBo Göransson, Ericsson

Bo Göransson received his MSc in applied physics and electrical engineering from Linköping University (LiTH) in 1991, and his PhD in signal processing from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in 1997.He has been with Ericsson since 1998. The first 10 years at Ericsson Research doing research and standardization of 3G and 4G systems with the focus on multi antenna functionality. In 2006 he was appointed Senior Specialist in the area of multi antenna concepts for radio access and in 2011 he was appointed expert in multi antenna systems.

Bo holds more than 60 patents related to wireless communications and received Ericsson’s Inventor of the Year award 2012.
