The focus of the funding is seed projects that could lead to larger Wireless@kth projects in cooperation with the industry partners of the center and projects exploring the feasibility of opening new, interesting research areas still not covered by the center.
Possible subjects for proposals
The subjects of such projects may cover all aspects of this field in its widest sense, i.e. the whole range from Mobile Applications & Interface design to physical layer topics, e.g. antennas and propagation. Business related aspects of Wireless Systems are also an integral part of the research program. Funding opportunities are open to all KTH researchers and affiliated groups at the Stockholm School of Economics and Stockholm University.
Evaluation of proposals
Proposals for Small (Seed) projects will be judged on the basis of the level of innovation, match with the objectives of the research program, their potential to spawn larger Wireless@kth projects and the scientific excellence of the proposal and the proposers. In the evaluation, preference will be given to projects where Center partners are actively involved and co-funders.
Two annual calls
The center will each year issue two calls for proposals, with submission deadlines in November and in May. The number of project will depend of the amount of funding available. During 2014, funding of 4 projects is envisaged to a total amount of 2 KSEK, where the Wireless@kth contribution does not exceed 500 KSEK for each project. Projects spanning over several years can also be considered. Projects proposed (but not funded) in previous call, are not automatically considered, but can be resubmitted.
Applications
The applications should be short and not exceed 3-4 A4 pages outlining the project scope, objectives and how these relate to the research program. Further, the research approach, staffing (incl. GST doctoral students, if any) and intended financing should be addressed. During the evaluation process, additional information may be requested from some of the proposers.
